I have been accepted into Rice University's Executive MBA program :-) I will continue to live and work full-time in San Antonio, but twice a month I will commute to Houston for weekend classes. The 4 day pre-term starts on 7/11/2007, Financial Accounting boot camp is on 7/21, and the first official weekend of classes is 7/28. Then, it's basically every other weekend for 22 months. Because classes are from 8-6 on Fridays and Saturdays, I will work a 9/80 schedule at the office.
How will I commute? Occasionally, I will drive/fly, and sometimes I will take the red-eye Amtrak. But most of the time I will take the Greyhound, armed with my noise-canceling headphones so I can use the travel time to study. Sometimes I will stay with friends, sometimes I will ensconce myself in a Hotel for privacy, and sometimes I will couchsurf and meet some new people. My couchsurfing profile is here. If you are also a couchsurfer and we already know one another, please add me as a friend on the site.
I intend to blog all about grad school. But not here. Look forward to a 2nd blog dedicated to that adventure soon.

I guess that other offer was for real. I didn't know that highly ranked MBA programs offered academic scholarships:

Goodbye AT&T/Cingular and your crummy unreliable service and evil business practices. I won't miss all the dropped calls. And I certainly won't miss doing business with a company that charges for phone warranty but refuses to fix/replace your phone under said warranty.
Goodbye Treo. Five of you have died in less that 18months service each. Slick, but weak.
Hello Verizon. I think you could drop 25% of my calls and you'd be miles ahead of my previous provider. Hello BlackBerry. If you're reliable for 18 months, it will be like a miracle.

Dear Phillip,
My staff came across your information in GMASS, and I am reaching out to you because your profile matches the type of student who thrives in our program and is appealing to our network of corporate employers. We have scholarship money available, and we are holding a few remaining places in the Fall '07 entering class for people who fit your profile.
I would like to have someone from my staff contact you to discuss the possibility of granting you a fellowship if you are admitted to our MBA program. If you are interested in learning more, please reply to this e-mail and I will have someone get back to you quickly with additional information.
Sincerely,
Andrew

Could it be because I got a decent score on the GMAT? Honestly, I don't think I'm interested. San Diego is too far away and their program is too new.

No more glasses.
Prior to surgery, I was seeing 20/800. If your vision cannot be corrected to 20/200, you are considered legally blind. When I was examined prior to surgery, without my glasses, I couldn't even see the largest letter on the chart, the big E, about the size of your head.
Now I'm 20/20. It's like a miracle. Which doctor did I use? Dr. Rashid. Recommended? You bet.
